Eyagelos A. Zachos - Papazachariou

Evangelos Zachos-Papazachariou (auch bekannt als Emmanouil Papazachariou, E. Zachos) wurde in Athen als Kind pontischer Flüchtlinge aus dem Bevölkerungsaustausch von 1923 geboren. Von 1952 bis 1958 war er Schüler von Simon Karas und studierte Ethnologie, Ethnomusikologie sowie östliche und balkanische Sprachen und Kulturen in Paris. 1968 promovierte er in Vergleichender Literaturwissenschaft an der Sorbonne und veröffentlichte die Bücher "La poesie populaire des Grecs" (1966), "Albanie" (1971) und "Babel Balkanique. Histoire politique des alphabets utilisés dans les Balkans" (1975). In Griechenland veröffentlichte er Bücher wie "The Piazza" (1980), "The Piazza Dictionary" (1981, 2. Aufl. "Dictionary of Greek Slang", 1999), "The Other Theophilos" (1998), "We Are Pontians" (1984), "The Stranger of New Kerasounta" (1984), "Languages, Alphabets, and National Ideology in Greece and the Balkans" (2000), "East of the East" (2005), "Markos and Popularity" (2005) und "Popularity in Old Greek Cinema" (2010). Er war im Kino, Theater, Fernsehen und in der Musik als Drehbuchautor, Regisseur, Texter und Komponist tätig. Gelegentlich lehrte er Ethnographie, Sozialanthropologie und Balkan-Studien an den Universitäten von Thrakien, Thessalien und Makedonien.
