What happens if someone wants to use this particular reader with fast UHS-I cards (i.e., cards supporting speeds above 104Mbytes/sec) from manufacturers other than SONY, which are now also the majority of the market? The question is relevant because card readers for UHS-II protocol SD cards (which, as is well known, are compatible with UHS-I) with USB-A connectivity are rare. So, there is no need to have SONY cards to want the advantages of a fast reader like this one.
But let's look at the tests with CrystalDiskMark v9.0.1: I used a Sandisk Extreme PRO 128Gbytes SD card, UHS-I class, with a nominal read speed of 200Mb/sec, as well as a Lexar Silver Plus 128Gbytes card with a nominal read speed of 205Mb/sec and write speed of 150Mb/sec. Three card readers were compared. One from Ugreen (CM 184 50706) USB 3.0 UHS-I class and two UHS-II class: the Sony 3.1 and the Kingston 3.2. (Note: the difference between USB 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 here is irrelevant since all these protocols far exceed the limits of the card and the reader).
Results with SanDisk Extreme Pro:
SONY: read 99.9Mb/sec, write 89.9Mb/sec
Ugreen: read 178.7Mb/sec, write 103.3Mb/sec
Kingston: read 95.5Mb/sec, write 88.2Mb/sec
Results with Lexar Silver Plus:
SONY: read 100.3Mb/sec, write 96.5Mb/sec
Ugreen: read 167.1Mb/sec, write 155.1Mb/sec
Kingston (not used here, but tested with fast Kingston UHS-I and delivers speeds greater than 180Mb/sec).
What do we see here? I see two explanations:
A) The card readers, except for the Ugreen, are vendor-specific: they favor cards from their own company.
B) The Ugreen enables extended UHS-I mode / DDR200, while the above readers cannot do this (even though they are UHS-II), at least with cards not manufactured by the same companies.
Conclusion: If we are talking about the cards that currently hold the largest market share, specifically the fast UHS-I cards, then not only do you have no reason to buy a 'branded' UHS-II reader like this SONY one, but it is almost certain that it will also cut significant speed UNLESS the card comes from the same company.

Τι γίνεται αν θέλει κάποιος να χρησιμοποιήσει το συγκεκριμένο reader σε γρήγορες UHS-I κάρτες (δηλαδή που να υποστηρίζουν ταχύτητες άνω των 104Mbytes/sec) άλλων - πλην SONY - κατασκευαστών και που είναι πλέον και η πλειοψηφία της αγοράς; Το ερώτημα έχει κάποια σημασία, επειδή τα card readers για SD cards πρωτοκόλλου UHS-II (ως γνωστόν συμβατό με UHS-I) με συνδεσιμότητα USB-A, σπανίζουν. Δεν είναι λοιπόν ανάγκη να έχει κάρτες SONY κάποιος για να θέλει τα πλεονεκτήματα ενός γρήγορου reader όπως αυτό.
Ας δούμε όμως και τα τεστ με το CrystalDiskMark v9.0.1: Χρησιμοποίησα μια κάρτα SD Sandisk Extreme PRO 128Gbytes κλάσης UHS-I με ονομαστική ταχύτητα ανάγνωσης 200Mb/sec καθώς και μια κάρτα Lexar Silver Plus 128Gbytes με ονομαστική ταχύτητα ανάγνωσης 205Mb/sec και εγγραφής 150Mb/sec. Συγκρίθηκαν 3 card readers. Ένα της Ugreen (CM 184 50706) USB 3.0 κλάσης UHS-I και δύο κλάσης UHS-II: τo Sony 3.1 και το Kingston 3.2. (Σημείωση: η διαφορά μεταξύ USB 3.0, 3.1 και 3.2 εδώ είναι αδιάφορη αφού όλα αυτά τα πρωτόκολλα ξεπερνούν κατά πολύ το όριο της κάρτας και του reader).
Αποτελέσματα με SanDisk Exreme Pro:
SONY: read 99,9Mb/sec, write 89,9Mb/sec
Ugreen: read 178,7Mb/sec, write 103,3Mb/sec

Kingston (δε χρησιμοποιήθηκε εδώ, όμως μετρήθηκε με γρήγορες Kingston UHS-I και αποδίδει ταχύτητες μεγαλύτερες από 180Mb/sec).
Τι βλέπουμε εδώ; Δύο εξηγήσεις βλέπω:
Α) οι card readers εκτός του Ugreen είναι vendor-specific: ευνοούν τις κάρτες της δικής τους εταιρίας.
Β) το Ugreen ενεργοποιεί extended UHS-I mode / DDR200, ενώ οι ανωτέρω readers δε μπορούν να το κάνουν αυτό (αν και UHS-II) τουλάχιστον σε κάρτες που δεν κατασκευάζονται από τις ίδιες εταιρίες.
Συμπέρασμα: Αν μιλάμε για τις κάρτες που αυτή τη στιγμή που γράφονται αυτά κατέχουν το μεγαλύτερο μερίδιο της αγοράς, και συγκεκριμένα τις γρήγορες UHS-I κάρτες, τότε όχι μόνο δεν έχεις κανένα λόγο να αγοράσεις κάποιο "επώνυμο" UHS-II reader όπως το συγκεκριμένο της SONY αλλά είναι σχεδόν σίγουρο ότι θα σου κόψει και σημαντική ταχύτητα ΕΚΤΟΣ αν η κάρτα προέρχεται από την ίδια εταιρία.
