As a former owner of the 500GB m2 SATA III version, I must mention that in desktop use, as a system disk, it stopped working without warning after about 1.5 years. The disk health was around 96-98%, meaning that the writes were minimal. It should be noted that the PC was not used on a daily basis. The manufacturer, to whom the disk was sent through the local store, did not provide any updates regarding the nature of the failure (I assume that the controller may have malfunctioned in combination with the high temperatures of the SSD, but I am not a technician). Ultimately, compensation was provided according to the selling price (rather than a replacement). The SSD was still under warranty.

My case may not necessarily be indicative of the quality of this specific version of the MX500. However, potential buyers should be aware that the m2 version tends to reach high temperatures, even with the inclusion of a heatsink (above 45-50+ degrees Celsius, with a 3-5 degree improvement in my case after using a heatsink). You can Google to see that other users have also noticed high temperatures. (Comparatively, a Kingston A2000 NVMe that replaced it is 10-15+ degrees Celsius cooler.)

In terms of speed, it is definitely very good (almost equivalent to Samsung in benchmarks) and nearly reaches the maximum limit of SATA III. The supporting software is also good (including Acronis for disk cloning, at the time of purchase). However, there are still concerns about reliability, in my opinion, due to the temperatures.

After a crazy headache between this, the 860 EVO and the Kingston A1000, I ended up with this one clearly because it is better value for money.
In terms of performance, it flies, as you can tell the difference from an older SSD (I had the HyperX Fury).
It may have a shorter life expectancy than the other 2 SSDs I was looking at, but the 180TBW is a very large number, which translates to around 50GB per day for 5 years. Unrealistic for regular use or gaming.
You may have read about temperature issues with this M.2 form factor, which indeed are higher compared to a 2.5", but there won't be a problem. Personally, I saw 46 degrees at idle, 55-60 while gaming, and 72 while transferring CoD WWII, which is 80GB. It never throttled, so don't worry about overheating.
Also, the Acronis True Image for Crucial that comes with it is awesome. I cloned my Windows in no time.

In short, flawless performance at the best price. Recommended.

Edit: 30/1/19 At this price, it's a steal. Don't waste your money thinking you'll get something better. And under no circumstances choose the inferior BX500
