SO THAT
THE CHILDREN OF THE POOR
CEASE TO BURDEN THEIR PARENTS AND THE COUNTRY
AND BECOME USEFUL TO SOCIETY.

Adopting the serious tone of a distinguished economic analyst that certainly reminds us of something, or simply that of a respectable citizen with social concerns in early 18th century Dublin, Jonathan Swift finally finds the solution for all the poor children who, without any luck, flood the city streets with their annoying presence and nonexistent future: Give them to the rich to eat!

A sparkling satire on the heartlessness of the powerful in the world that still shocks with its macabre accuracy, three hundred years after its anonymous publication by the legendary author of Gulliver’s Travels.

Jonathan Swift (1667–1745), one of the greatest writers the English language has known, was born in Dublin, studied at Trinity College, was ordained an Anglican priest, participated in the literary circles of his time and was close to the centers of decision-making, but his unruly pen always brought him against the rulers – and Queen Anne of Great Britain, who condemned his satire A Tale of a Tub (1704) as blasphemous. In 1726, Swift completed Gulliver’s Travels, which immediately enjoyed great success and were translated into three languages within the next year.
